IT: Inspired By Design

This is an image of a very rare Zebra-Striped Chalupa Tulip. So rare, in fact, that it doesn't exist. Yet. I could design it, were I so inclined (and gifted).

Tulips are among the most un-natural plants on earth. Take a look through a garden catalog:

Do you think most, if any, of those plants would exist without human intervention? Wait, don't think. I'll tell you. No. No they wouldn't.

Humans aren't the only animal that designs their environment. All organic material leaves a footprint (don't tell the Sierra Club). Usually it's done in a trial-by-fire method. We're just now starting to understand how design at the DNA level works. The more we can understand, the more we can control the outcome.

One human who is good at this is Norman Borlaug. Next time you hear talk of Frankenfoods, be midfull of the fact that Frankenfoods prevented mass-starvation.

I'm inspired by those who are designing the building blocks of life, who bring us beauty and save millions of lives.

Your tulip reminded me of putting some more bulbs in the earth, I might do that next full moon actually, that is thursday the 7 th of september.
It might give them more force.
Moontulips, hmmm, idea for a painting, maybe?

A VERY long time ago when my interests turned to gardening I proudly bought Parrot Tulips and planted them in a circle expecting to see this beautiful display of colors and design (plant petals). Well most of them never popped up, some came up weak and pale and some were deformed. Crushed, I never planted another bulb. Many years later I discovered Tulip bulbs have a bottom and a top.

I hope the Chinese enjoyed the Tulips that appeared unexpectantly.

Thanks for a very enjoyable IT.

Ew, the whole Frankenfoods thing freaks me out. It really scares me what we, as humans, choose to do with our intelligence. I am not a fan of genetically engineered foods, and I think there are going to be some really tragic long-term effects because of them. Just because we can do something, doesn't mean we should do it. It just doesn't make sense to me to mess with Mama Nature like that...

But anyway, I do love your gorgeous tulip -- beautiful colors!!

Thanks for participating at Inspire Me Thursday!
